Humanitarian Aid Commission
Press Release
We have come across statements attributed to Mr. Tom Perriello, the U.S. Special Envoy to Sudan, in various media outlets and social media platforms. In his remarks, he alleged that the Humanitarian Aid Commission is obstructing the delivery of emergency aid to those in need. He further claimed that the commission had prevented 520 out of 550 humanitarian aid trucks from departing Port Sudan.
These allegations by Mr. Perriello are part of a coordinated campaign aimed at discrediting the efforts led by the Humanitarian Aid Commission to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian assistance, stemming from its professional and ethical responsibility towards those in need and affected by the war that has created dire humanitarian conditions. Accordingly, the Commission categorically denies and strongly refutes Mr. Perriello’s statements, asserting that it would have been more appropriate for him to be realistic and courageous by condemning the actions of the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which are looting, detaining, and obstructing the delivery of humanitarian aid, besieging those in need, and preventing them from accessing food and medicine.
The Humanitarian Aid Commission expresses its deep astonishment and condemnation of Mr. Perriello’s baseless statements. The Commission clarifies that, from January 1 to November 6, 2024, it has issued 12,170 movement permits to organizations and agencies, facilitated the entry of 1,073 trucks through the Adré and Tina border crossings, and approved the movement of 10,705 trucks across various internal routes and checkpoints. Additionally, it approved 2,985 entry visas for foreign humanitarian workers. The total value of exemptions and support provided by the government, including customs and tax exemptions, transportation of aid, and procurement of materials, has exceeded 600 million U.S. dollars.
The Humanitarian Aid Commission reaffirms its ongoing efforts and role in facilitating and delivering humanitarian assistance in coordination and cooperation with all partners, including the government, the United Nations, and organizations, in adherence to and respect for the principles of international humanitarian law and human rights.
