
Gambeel Organization Elects Archbishop Yunathan KUKU as President

The general assembly of “Gambeel Organization for Relief and Development” approved its statute and elected Archbishop Dr. Yunathan Hammad KUKU as president of the Organization.
More than five years ago Archbishop Yunathan and several activists, community leaders, and youth established the “Mercy Call” organization on the local level, yet the new procedures and the new law require the new re-establishment on the federal level. On 7th September 2021, hosted by the Evangelical cultural center in Khartoum, the general assembly held its first meeting. The members of the general assembly represent a wide range of people from both Christianity and Islam and different regions of Sudan. The assembly also elected Vice-President Samya ABU-GASIM, Abashar AL-AESER Secretary-General, and the executive office of the organization comprising secretaries of education, health, children, woman, social services. The Foreign Relations secretary Mekki ELMOGRABI appreciated the role of Archbishop Yunathan and his experience in peacebuilding and humanitarian work through his long service in the Lutheran church and human rights activism in Sudan, “We are proud that a person with such knowledge and experience will lead the organization” Mekki said at the general assembly.

The programs of the Gambeel organization focus on Relief and Development with an approach based on the co-existence initiatives and religious and social tolerance between all Sudanese by giving priority to present examples in co-existence areas where people from different backgrounds live together and need to maintain peace and tolerance among their communities.
Gambeel is a name of an indigenous tree in the Nuba Mountains in South Kordofan, Sudan which is very famous for its large size and wide shadow used for local gatherings for social activities and reconciliations. Gambeel tree is not just famous for people gathering but also a large number of different kinds of birds especially during the season of harvest they make their nests in the tree and live together.
